London bombing

What a pitty what has happened in London I join my voice to the blogsphere condemming this horrendous attack. I woke up late today, and my first thought was should I use the Metro today or call in sick. I guess chances of having simultenous attacks in different cities is still low. Hopefully we should never see that day.

La seguridad social estatal y los fondos de reserva

Es evidente en las últimas manifestaciones callejeras de los trabajadores que la gente prefiere obtener algo ahora de los fondos de reserva que esperar quien sabe cuantos años para usarlos. Por supuesto no es algo que ocurre porque la gente no piensa en su futuro. Es algo que se da fruto de la desconfianza del ciudadano común en lo que el seguro social está haciendo con su dinero. Gran escándalo ha causado en la ciudadanía el saber que los fondos de reserva están acumulados en el Banco Central ganando intereses irrisorios. Menos mal son dólares y no sucres pues en estos momentos no serían 580 millones de dólares como dice el gobierno si no quien sabe si 10 dólares al paso al que ibamos en el 2001.

This country is about dreams

Great Gloria Stefan and Emilio Stefan have been just awarded a prize acknowledging their musical careers. Only the second winners of this prize for musical achievement and it's a proof of the ever increasing influence of Latinos. Cheers to Latino's and America, as Emilio Estefan said, "this country is about dreams". A country full of all this dreams that people achieve here despite the meager conditions in which they arrive and live for a while. Long live to this republic.

Happy Birthday America

I am watching on tv the concert at the mall celebrating the 4th of July. The best part so far is the Star Wars insignia musical theme played on the national mall by the National Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Erich Kunzel. Just watching it on tv with the backdrop of the Mall gave me goose bumps. Makes you think about the greatness of this country, that is the good part. On the other hand hopefully this country remains a republic and does not become an empire or a dictatorship as it happens in the movie. Any similarity with reality is sheer coincidence.
